Winter Fencing

Sometimes our Canadian winters are tough which can make some of our outside structures work hard to survive what winter throws at them...

Hopefully, you have thought about the material that was used construct your fence. In Hamilton, the fencing contractors at Davis Fences want your fence to make through the winter trouble -free. If your fencing makes it through the winter unscathed, chances it was constructed with one of the following materials:

1.      Wrought Iron

Fences made from wrought iron are very strong and look stunning year-round. Their big drawback is that they don’t offer noise reduction and privacy. For these reasons, you won’t find them used a lot in backyards even though they are very durable and require little maintenance. If you need fencing in your front yard, consider using wrought iron.

2.      Vinyl

Vinyl fencing is very strong and will stand up to strong winds. Vinyl fencing will offer privacy, if that’s what you’re looking for. If you like, paint it or have it installed in a colour you like. A lot of residential and commercial properties use vinyl as material for their fences.

3.      Chain link

Chain link fencing is the most affordable to have installed. If you have a lot of fencing to have put up, think chain link. Just make sure it has a vinyl coating.

4.      Aluminum

This material is easy to maintain and will take the abuse that winter can unleash. You will see a lot of aluminum fencing on commercial properties because it offers privacy while being quite reasonable in price. This is a good material that will weather the winter while having outdoor lights attached.

5.      Wood

Just not any type of wood fencing. Make sure if you’re thinking of wood that will withstand our winters, consider wood that is manufactured from wood fibers. It may be a little more expensive but you will not be worried about your fence over the winter.

Hopefully, you’ve taken care of some winter prep. If you haven’t, be sure to get outside and remove any debris, yard equipment, toys and furniture from near the fence posts and cut away any tree branches that could be hanging near the fence. Do a walkaround your fences and make sure all panels are intact and not loose.
